• The Naked Truth About Making Money From Home
Posted by Tom Harnish on March 15th, 2008
What with all the brouhaha over New York Govenor Spitzer’s recent stupidity, it came as some surprise to us that Edmonton Canada has a law that allows prostitutes to work at home.
It seems that in mid-1999 the Edmonton city council approved a new bylaw that allows, um, ‘escorts’ to field calls at home. Services, however, must be rendered at a hotel or a client’s home, and the operation of bawdy houses is prohibited.
Council felt the new law would allow women to break free from greedy escort agency operators who fine women for turning down ‘dates’ and certain acts, and approved the training classes “to ensure that all women who enter the business are doing so with open eyes.” So to speak.
An independent escort who applauded the bylaw changes, said the classes, “will show the girls the bad side of the job. It’s not all money.” Well, duh.
Constable Jolly (yes, really) said there was a misconception amongst the public that prostitution is illegal, when in fact it’s not.
Now that Spitzer’s out of a job, we wonder if he’s considering a move to Canada?
