I’m going way out on a limb here, but I just ran across a book that even without reading it, I can tell is a must-read.
Yes, I AM going to read Personality Not Included. I just ordered it from Amazon. But I just couldn’t wait to blog it. This guy’s web site shows he’s got the right stuff. Even if you’re not interested in the topic—and you should be—you’ll learn a lot about web-based and social marketing from his example.
Our last business, a vintage flying service, just oozed personality. We dressed up in silly outfits, poked fun at ourselves and others who took themselves too seriously, and generally laid ourselves out there for all to see, regardless of whether or not they liked what they saw.
The result was free publicity from all over the world. We’d love to include a link to our old business here, we were proud of the fact that we’d built it up to be the largest of its kind in the country (in part, because any sane person wouldn’t try to put groceries on the table by selling rides in 80 year old airplanes), but we sold the company a couple of years ago and the new owners have taken a far more, um, staid (read, boring) approach to the business. In essence, its lost its personality, its je ne c’est quoi. . . .chutzpah.
We’ve since started this site to help people find their way home. But somewhere along the way we too lost our personality—the one that brought us fame (and some fortune) in prior endeavors. Well, that’s gonna change, thanks to Rohit’s reminder that personality is what matters.
