One of our readers dropped us a note about a job offer she found online and said:

Please let me know what you think. I applied, was of course offered job, but did more research due to $ involved and them wanting me to do banking!-they don’t seem to really exist. Was contacted by IM for weeks from some phony address out west and had to change my IM to stop getting msgs.
This one could be very dangerous for someone I have a feeling.

The ad looks and sounds more or less legitimate, but her caution was well founded. We did a quick Google research and found that:

#1 There is no company called River Side Technology
#2 The 511 area code is unused, so the phone number is bogus
#3 There is no North 64th Drive in Cincinnati. West 64th Street, yes; but no N. 64th Dr.

That’s enough to tell us someone is up to something dishonest.

Our guess is that if you weren’t cautious at some point along the line they’d ask for

your

bank information (so they can direct deposit your pay, or some such excuse), and poof your money would be gone. Another scam they might use would be to send you some legitimate looking bills and ask to you transfer your money to their account to verify things are set up right before you start using the system to pay their bills. They’d promise refund the money, of course. Yeah, right.
